Onyx Boox Max 2 and Boox Note Pro review: large-screen readers that do more than just display books
Onyx is one of the few companies that produces e-readers with screens larger than 7 inches. At CES 2018, the company introduced two new products: Onyx Boox Max 2 and Boox Note Pro. These are widescreen tablet devices that provide more than just reading books.
A look at Onyx Boox Max 2 and Boox Note Pro
During my test, most of the time I used the Max 2, which is larger than the 12-inch iPad Pro in terms of screen size. The large 13.1-inch E-Ink Mobius display has a resolution of 2200×1650 pixels at a density of 207 ppi. This is much more than any other tablet of this size.
The screen is surrounded by plastic frames and wrapped in a very light and thin metal case. It is comfortable and easy to hold with one hand, large size, even magazines can be read.
The Onyx Boox Max 2 comes with a Wacom stylus for annotating https://jiji.co.ke/30-power-bikes PDFs, taking notes, and even writing music. E-Ink screens are characterized as slow, but the display on the Max 2 is quite fast and fluid, and notes and text written with the stylus appear instantly.
Communication and connections
All files can be saved and exported using a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or microUSB connection. Next to the micro-USB port is a micro-HDMI port that, when connected to a computer, turns the Boox Max 2 and Note Pro into a second display.
This feature may not appeal to everyone, but may be useful for those who do not want to read long documents on a PC monitor. This is where E-Ink screens show their advantage – they do not strain the eyes, and given their size, they are great even for reading before bed.
